Jonahs history....

And in the beginning.......

Jonahs love of underground dance music stems back to 1989, when he was 16. It was around this time that Acid House music was being played on many of the pirate radio stations in London (Centreforce FM, Don FM, Girls FM), which Jonah listened to whilst working the night shift at his local Safeways!

This is what drew him to his first rave, which was in the old crypt of a church in South London called the Crypt (which is now known as The Mass). Here Jonah experienced the likes of Steve Jackson (an old Kiss FM DJ) and Jazzy B (of Soul 2 Soul Fame), where the strobes and smoke machine where on ALL night and acid was the drug of the day! After learning to drive, and therefore being a bit more mobile, Jonah continued giving the raving scene a good spank for the next five years, getting mangled at such events as Every Picture at the Labyrinth, Tribal Gathering  in Luton and Oxfordshire, Biology, Sunrise, Raindance and Roast, to name but a few! It was a this point Jonahs attention turned to deejaying.

And so....

Although Jonah had a rough idea on how to mix and DJ, having watched his mates at house parties and other DJs whilst out and about, it wasnt until 1994 that Jonah took it up proper, at the ripe old age of 21. Jonah first decks were a pair of crappy beltdrive Soundlabs, ponced off his brother, the mixer being a crusty and rusty old Made 2 Fade!!

Once the basics had been learnt, he then progressed to a pair Technics 1210's and a Numark mixer. He began playing Hardcore and Jungle at various house and squat parties (run by his brother) in and around London. In 1996 he was asked by a DJ called Kaos (owner of Wax City records, now defunkt) to play at one of the first Future Dances (a Hardcore rave), which at the time were being run from a bar in Croydon, South London called Wiseguys (now demolished). Also around this time Jonahs brother had progressed to promoting a Hardcore/Jungle/House rave called Dance Til Dawn at the Chunnel Club (now called Hidden ) in Vauxhall, London. This saw Jonah secure his first residency.

And then there were the Pirates....

In mid 1998, Jonah was introduced, through Kaos, to another DJ called Phantom D, who at the time was running a Hardcore/Jungle/Drum N Bass pirate station called Hyper FM in London, and had been on air for about a year. After a bit of blag and one mix tape later, a set was secured on a Saturday night, from midnight to 2 A.M, playing Hardcore and Jungle. This Jonah continued to do for the next 2 years, eventually progressing to the 2 to 4 show on a Sunday afternoon.

As ever, all good things must come to an end, and  December 2001 saw the last ever transmission from Hyper FM. Altough his station had now closed down, Jonah and Phantom D still maintained contact, which led them both to securing a back to back set on various Pirate and Internet radio stations including Nolongting.com ,Eruption Fm ,Icecold FM , Dream FM. React FM, Lush FM, Twist FM, Origin FM and Code 10 FM. It was this solid partnership which led to Jonah and Phantom D eventually securing a set on the legendary Kool FM in London, presenting the "Total Hypnosis Showcase" every Wednesday night from 9 to 11, which they still do as you read this!!

And then there was Hypnosis.....

It was around February 2001 that Phantom D and his brother began a London based rave promotion called Hypnosis, with the intention of pushing Hardcore and Jungle ever forward. The first raves were held at a club under some railway arches in Camberwell, South London called the Imperial Gardens (which has now closed down due to the local council), and comprised of three rooms (arches) of Hardcore, Drum and Bass and Oldskool. After several events there, and a name change due to a garage promotion in London also called Hypnosis (no longer running), Total Hypnosis decided to move down the road to a club in Vauxhall, London, called the Viaduct Club (now called the Fire club). After only 2 events there, it was decided to move back to the Impereial Gardens, due to its three rooms, compared with the Viaducts two.

Unfortunately, due to work commitments, Phantoms brother was forced to drop out of the promotion at that time and because of this, event wise, things came to bit of a halt. Then, at the end of 2003, Phantom D decided that it was time to rekindle the Total Hypnosis flame, and so joined up with co-promoters Jonah, Delight and Dominator to start a new chapter in the Total Hypnosis story!
